The Houthis, an Iranian backed militia in Yemen has not only fired countless cruise missiles at Israel, but as of today went even further when hijacked what they thought was an Israeli owned cargo ship sailing through the Red Sea.

While the Houthis first claimed the Galaxy Leader was an Israeli owned ship, it is in fact British owned. The ship had no Israelis on board. After taking over the ship, the Houthis took the ship to the Yemeni port of Salif port in Hodeida province where they said they intended on interrogating the crew.

“Israeli ships are legitimate targets for us anywhere… and we will not hesitate to take action,” Major General Ali Al-Moshki, a Houthi military official, told the group’s Al-Massirah TV station.

Bab al-Mandab Strait where this took place is perhaps the most important choke-point for shipping in the world. Iran is using the Houthis to squeeze the west. With today’s seizure getting little or no response, expect more of these attacks in the future.
