What do we stand for? Do we stand for freedom and rationalism or terror and radicalism? That is the question that MK Amit HaLevi poses. That is exactly the point. So many people who grapple with issues relating to Israel do not understand that it really is that simple. There are not two sides to every argument that are both legitimate. This is a perfect example of a situation wherein there is one side that is right and one that is wrong.

Of course, it is out of style to talk about right and wrong today. But that does not negate the reality that right and wrong are built in concepts in the world that humanity must grapple with. The pendulum has swung all the way to the anti-right and wrong side. Most young people today in the Western world genuinely believe that everyone should have the right to define their own rights and wrongs. It is accepted today that anyone should be able to identify as whatever they want. This sounds so nice and open-minded.

In truth, it is a chaotic and anarchistic world-view which leads nowhere positive. It just empowers all that are doing evil in the world to justify their actions as legitimate.

One need not be a religious person or even one who believes in God’s existence in order to accept that there absolutely must be right and wrong in the world. A pure atheist using simple logic can understand that without accepted norms of right and wrong, there are no red lines. There is no real concept of private property, or even privacy at all. Nobody can be accused of wrongdoing when there is no concept of wrong and right.

Why should people who smash store windows in order to loot be accused of wrongdoing? After all, they have seemingly legitimate reasons for doing so – in their own eyes? And if the store owners shoot them when they feel attacked, why should they be accused of wrongdoing? After all, they were just defending their own lives. It is obvious that a lack of accepted rights and wrongs quickly descends a society into barbarianism and anarchy.

The fact of the matter is that jails are a good thing. They keep the bad people away from destroying the lives of good people. Israel is good. Those who attack Israel are bad. It really is that simple. These may not be self-evident truths, but they are the truth nonetheless. A great boomerang movement is needed to swing the pendulum back to normalcy, to a world where people are indeed responsible for their actions, where right and wrong are concepts that are debated, but accepted as absolutely necessary.

If America does not lead the way, then Israel will.
