The IDF announced that it finally captured its first live terrorist in southern Lebanon. While this would normally not be a big deal, there have been many reports of Hezbollah fighters having run north when the Shiite exodus from southern Lebanon commenced. True, there have been battles like in Maroun El Ras and most assume that the battle in Bint Jbeil will be tough, but the IDF is finding far less resistance than originally assumed.
The IDF reported that soldiers discovered an underground tunnel shaft in a building leading to a hideout area for terrorists with an adjacent exit shaft.
The troops encircled the building, scanned the tunnel shaft, and discovered an underground compound at a depth of approximately 7 meters and a 50-meter hideout area, where a Hezbollah terrorist was embedded alongside weapons and equipment for a long-term stay. After the terrorist surrendered and was apprehended, the soldiers interrogated him on-site and then transferred him to a detention facility for further questioning within Israel.
The capture of a Hezbollah terror soldier is considered big news. Up until now, many have been killed or have fled so a live Hezbollah terrorist will be a boon for intelligence. Many have pointed out that this is also a huge psychological hit on Hezbollah and their Shiite Jihadist supporters. After all, it was Hezbollah, like Hamas who was supposed to be taking prisoners and now one of their own is in IDF custody being interrogated.
