Professor Eugene Kontorovich, an expert in International law, has begun putting together a glossary on twitter to help better understand the public discourse about Israel’s new government.

Here are his first entries:

“annexation” – PREVENTING annexation, especially EU-backed Palestinian effort to take over Area C and turn it into another Juderein area. Yes, it doesn’t sound like what you would think of as “annexation,” but it must be called that to maximize U.S. anger.

anti-LGBT” – preventing gov’t from punishing business owners in matters of conscience; having govt forms w/ blanks for “mother” & “father”. Such laws will turn Israel into a dark & illiberal regime, like the US, where such protections for religion are 1st Amendment rights

“Apartheid” – a system of Jewish supremacy whereby large signs labelled “A” mark zones Jews are forbidden to go at the risk of their life; Jews are prohibited from worshiping in their holiest site; etc. Click here for a full article on WSJ.

“Anti-democratic”: believing that in absence of a written constitution, the people should be governed by laws made by their elected representatives, rather than elites that seize power in self-described “revolution”

“Religious status quo:” the settled practices & and well-worn social compromises about relation of Israeli law to Jewish issues that cannot be disturbed, including massive overhaul of kashrut and conversion pushed through by outgoing gov’t in its brief 18-months
