Necessity is the mother of invention. Israel has a unique necessity that nearly no other country has. It has an urgent need to survive in a sea of anti-Jewish hatred. Although things have been improving somewhat in the last few decades with some peace treaties and economic cooperation treaties with some Arab States in the Middle East, there are still existential threats that Israel faces on her borders and from Iran. Iran is a powerhouse in the Middle East that does not even attempt to disguise it’s goals to destroy the State of Israel.

Benjamin Netanyahu did not create the mortal threat of a nuclear strike from Iran. It was in the planning stages before Netanyahu was elected to be Prime Minister of Israel, more than 25 years ago. But Netanyahu succeeded in leading the country to focus on Iran as the #1 threat. Over the last 25 years, the threat has gone from a minor threat to a very serious threat that Israel has no choice but to face up to and combat.

There have been many levels that Israel has gone after the threat. One method has been via attacking the top scientists. Another method – probably the most effective – has been to hack into the computers that Iran uses to build their nuclear reactor. Hackers love a good challenge, even if it’s not important. How much more so when it is at the height of the pyramid of national security priorities.

But today, it goes way beyond that. The promise of economic prosperity has drawn nearly every young and gifted programmer into Israel’s elite Army computer unit. It serves as a ticket into the top companies following Army service. So, both ideological importance and economic promise are drawing in the best and the brightest to combat Iran and keep Israel secure. It is a winning combination that continues to keep Israel safe and prosperous.
