There is so much to say about this short video. Watching an Auschwitz survivor put the IDF beret on his great-grandson after his training is incredible to say the least. No one knew what would happen to the Jewish people during the Holocaust. Even for those who would survive, would they give up after? Would they be too pained to carry on? How would the Jewish people continue after one of the most difficult time periods in all of Jewish history?
But the Jewish people did continue on. And watching an Auschwitz survivor place an IDF beret on his great-grandson proves that the Jewish people are here to stay. There was no modern Jewish state in 1939. And just shortly after the Holocaust, the Jewish people built up the Jewish state, created the IDF, and showed the world what a proud Jew can do.
This moment of an Auschwitz survivor and his great-grandson as an Israeli soldier is an example of how Jews carry pain, tears, hope, joy, strength, faith, and love.
