The Jerusalem Boy’s Choir

The Jerusalem Boy’s Choir, or in Hebrew Pirchei Yerushalayim, began because one special person decided to turn pain into something more meaningful. Many people experience tragedy and pain in life. Some experience it more deeply than others. Some suffer more, some suffer less. But the question is: How do those who experience difficulties respond? Do they try to make the world a better place? Do they bring more light and love because of the darkness that they experienced? Chanan Avital chose to bring more light. He experienced trauma, and rather than let it dictate his life, he chose to channel his experiences to making the world a better place. He chose to dedicate his life to music – something which brings joy to many people.

That is not easy to do. It’s not easy to experience such deep pain and then to take that pain to create something beautiful. But the Jewish people definitely have it in them to remain determined and strong; positive and optimistic. It is part of the Jewish spirit to search for the good in all situations and to believe that G-d has a master plan. It is part of the Jewish spirit to bring more of G-d’s light into the world.

And everyone has their own unique way how he or she chooses to bring that light into a world that sometimes feels dark.
