Jerusalem is the 3,000 year old capital of Jerusalem. It was initially purchased by King David and he turned it into the capital city. But Jerusalem only reached it’s full glory in the days of King David’s son, Solomon. King Solomon, known for his wisdom, was also a grand builder. He expanded the Kingdom of Israel and built the First Temple.
The First Temple stood for more than 400 years in Jerusalem. It stood in all of it’s glory. But following King Solomon’s death, his descendants split the Kingdom into separate Kingdoms. There were many ups and downs in the ensuing years. The Jewish people rarely followed G-d’s Laws for an extended amount of time. They were punished and returned to follow G-d’s ways. But again and again, the stubborn Chosen People continued to stray from G-d.
All of this happened during the 1st Temple. Today, much of what happened then is not just read in the Bible. It is dug up and turned into a tourist attraction, just a few minutes away from the Western Wall of the Temple Mount. Millions of tourists pass through the area of the Temple Mount. The fortunate ones go on a tour down the road to what is generally called the City of David.
As opposed to most tourist attractions, the City of David changes all of the time. The digging is on-going and new discoveries are the norm. This is one of many amazing discoveries done recently. There will be more to come.
