The most surprising thing to so many anti-Israel students is how many Israeli Arabs strongly prefer living under the State of Israel than under any of the many Arab states surrounding Israel. The reasons are many.
One of them is that they have real freedom to vote and be elected into Parliament, no matter what religion they practice. That is a major reason. Israel’s Supreme Court has Arab judges that can and have placed Jewish Presidents and former Prime Ministers into prison. Tell that to anyone who claims that Israel does not treat it’s Arabs properly. It surprises everyone. But that is just one of so many examples.
The greatest of all reasons may be that Arabs in Israel live longer and healthier lives. Arabs in Israel are doctors in all of the most prestigious hospitals in Israel, are treated in all of the hospitals in Israel and are an integral part of the entire medical system in Israel. This is not a minor issue. It is perhaps the #1 reason that most Arabs want to be citizens of Israel, even if they object to many of Israel’s other policies. The best proof of this may be that Israel even treats its enemies from Syria and Lebanon when they are wounded in intra-Arab warfare. This is generally done under the radar, but it is well known among Arabs.
The bottom line is that Arabs in Israel have it good, politically, economically and medically and choose overwhelmingly to retain their citizenship in Israel. On the other hand, Arabs in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt and other countries are clamoring to leave their countries in order to have a better life elsewhere.
