There is nothing like seeing sunrise, beautiful colors. To get up early and see this is an experience you don’t want to miss. There have been many countries that have sent rockets into space. Some of these rockets landed on the moon.

Earth and the Moon

Outer space is the expanse that exists beyond the planet Earth. Earth is just one of nine planets. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and for those few that still count it as a planet, there is Pluto.

The Earth, is the third planet away from the sun and the only planet known to have life on it. The Earth is known to have one moon, unlike Jupiter which has over two dozen moons. As all planets, Earth makes its way around the Sun, the biggest ball of energy.

The Earth takes around 365 days to make a full orbit around the sun. A year is 365 days with every 4 years a leap year, adding in a day to the month of February. This is also known as the Solar Calendar, as it follows the Sun. The Moon orbits the Earth, it completes an orbit every 352 days. This calendar is called the Lunar Calendar.

Rockets into Space

There have been numerous space missions not only to the moon but also to other planets. September 1959 was the first mission. Neil Armstrong and his crew landed on the moon in 1969. Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon. His famous quote is “that is one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”, was said then.

Countries, like the United States, China and Russia have all sent missions into space. Sending missions into space was interesting during the 1960s when the Cold War was going strong between the US and Russia, it felt like they were competing to get more missions into space.

Beresheet

This is the space craft that the State of Israel sent into space in 2019. It is expected to land on the moon on 11th April 2019. It includes plans to measure the moons magnetic field. It is Israels first spacecraft to travel beyond the Earths orbit. Israel would be the fourth country to land a spacecraft on the moon, after the United States, Russia and China.

The word Beresheet is the first word written in the Bible. It means in the beginning. Sending a spacecraft to the moon would be a first for Israel, a beginning of a new Journey. Beresheet has sent pictures back to Earth of sunrise from space. If you thought sunrise on Earth was breathtaking you should see these pictures. Not only, has it sent back beautiful pictures of sunrise but has also sent back selfies. A picture of itself, the spacecraft with space in the background.
