The Jewish People Have Survived Because of This Sage
The Jewish people have survived because that’s what G-d wants. As His chosen people, He has promised us that we will always be His people. He will not let us be destroyed. Yes, there are times where we have suffered greatly throughout the centuries. We have experienced tragedy and pain beyond what anyone can fathom. G-d has allowed his Temples to be burned to the ground and His people exiled.
But obliterated from this world? Never. He has kept His promises. His Temple will be rebuilt – may it be speedily in our days.
Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai knew he had to do something to ensure that the Jewish nation would keep its identity and carry on its traditions. His decisions impacted the nation we are today and the way in which we conduct ourselves without the Temple in Jerusalem. It is amazing how he was able to be so wise in a time of such fear and destruction. Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai stayed determined and focused for the sake of the future of the Jewish people.
