What the IDF Did in 2021
The IDF is an unbelievable army. Even just the fact that we have a Jewish army is miraculous. Some of our parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents would never have been able to imagine such a thing. Just a little over 70 years ago, the modern state of Israel did not exist. Yes, there was once an ancient Jewish army of Israel. There were many throughout history. And despite a constant Jewish presence in the ancient Jewish homeland for thousands of years, there was a long break of having a Jewish army defending the Jewish people.
But now, we are back. And we are stronger than ever. There are young men and women who have given everything to defend the state of Israel and the Jewish people. Sadly, many have given their lives. But they did it proudly knowing that they were killed doing G-d’s will and doing holy work for the nation of Israel. They were killed Al Kiddish Hashem, as is said in Hebrew, which means sanctifying G-d’s name.
Is the army perfect? No, and no one says it is. But they are the most moral army in the world. And their goal is to defend, not to kill or harm others. Yes, tragically, people have been killed from the other side – even innocent people. But Israel does everything in its power to avoid casualties. Because at the end of the day, the army exists just to ensure the survival of the Jewish state and the Jewish people.
