Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari announced on Tuesday that Turkey will join mediation efforts between Hamas and Israel.

Speaking at a press conference in Doha, Al-Ansari revealed that a meeting is scheduled tonight between the Hamas negotiating team and Turkish officials to discuss US President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the Gaza conflict. He also stated that the Israeli prime minister issued an apology to Qatar for an attack on its territory and committed to preventing future attacks. Al-Ansari noted that the Hamas delegation received Trump’s plan late Monday night, adding, “it is still too early for an official response, but the delegation is examining the document responsibly and we continue to be in regular contact with them.”

A Palestinian source informed Sky News Arabic that Hamas is reviewing the US proposal but noted that the group’s leaders have significant reservations, with some labeling it a “declaration of defeat.” The source said Hamas is seeking assurances from Qatar that hostilities will not resume and that its overseas leaders will remain safe from future harm.

During a press conference, the Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated, “We appreciate the US commitment to ending the war in Gaza. Qatar is committed to bringing about a cessation of fighting, providing humanitarian aid and ending hunger in the Strip.”

Qatar’s statements suggest increasing pressure on Hamas leadership to accept Trump’s initiative, though the organization has not yet issued an official response.
