The Bedouin takeover of the Negev continues without anyone in the government trying to stop it.
In response, a group of activists and opposition MKs decided to set up a new Jewish community near the Bedouin city of Rahat in the Negev.
The community is named Ma’ale Paula, after Paula Ben-Gurion, the wife of Israel’s first prime minister. Ben Gurion championed the settling of the Negev. Ben Gurion was noted as saying “In the Negev, the people of Israel and their state will be tested.”
Instead of ripping down the thousands upon thousands of illegal Bedouin homes, the police evacuated the new Jewish village.
