The horrors of the Holocaust are truly beyond description.  However, we must not forget what transpired just a few generations ago.

I See Fire

“We are finally free.”  What a powerful juxtaposition from the horrid times of the Holocaust till the modern-day reality.

The lights of The Chanukah candelabra light up the souls of the masses each year. This is the exact opposite of what the Nazi maniacs brought to this world.  They brought darkness, lies, and death.  The Jews stand for light, hope and truth.

Hearts on Fire

One of the least known phenomenon of the Holocaust was the amazing heights of courage that the Jews attained.  There are countless witnesses who observed giants of the spirit in the moments before death.  Many Jews fought, but unarmed and weakened by starvation and cold, they had no chance.  A small fraction of the fighters succeeded.  Most were killed immediately.

However, others understood the helpless state they were in.  But, many did not give up hope till the very end.  They prayed, and prayed, and prayed more.  Then at the very end, they sang songs of prayer – the “Ani Maamin” – I believe.  This powerful song is what many Jews chose to sing right before they were killed.  They chose to exclaim their total belief in God despite the hell on earth that they experienced.

Their hearts were literally on fire with belief in God.
