Fascinating Discoveries

This is just one of the many amazing discoveries that have taken place in Israel. Israel is a land that people settled in, long before it was called the State of Israel. Additionally, this land is a trade route, it connects Africa with Europe. Therefore, many years ago many tradesmen would travel through this land. Which is why there are many artifacts from many different eras.

More discoveries from ancient times include Synagogues, mosaics, pottery, walls from houses, ritual baths, seals, coins and much more. There are so many national parks and museums to see all these ancient artifacts that have been discovered all over Israel.

Dead Sea Scrolls

The Dead Sea Scrolls were found in the caves of Qumran in 1947. They were discovered by a bedouin Shephard who had lost one of his sheep. Seven scrolls were discovered in this cave. But since 1947 many scrolls have been discovered in surrounding caves. Many of these scrolls date back to the time of the Second Temple.

Also to mention that these scrolls were preserved extremely well. They were found in jars in the caves. The area is of low humidity and this helped preserve the scrolls.

Furthermore, these scrolls all contain Hebrew texts. Many of the scrolls contain text from the Book of Isaiah. Genesis, Deuteronomy, Leviticus, Judges, Samuel, and Psalms. These are just some of the books that are written on other scrolls that were found.

Finally, the Scrolls today are placed in the Shrine of the Book. This is part of the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. A place that is well worth a visit on your next trip to Israel.
