WhatsappLibyans rioted over the secret meeting between Israeli and Libyan foreign ministers in Rome.
The US was said to have been working on a normalization agreement between Israel and Libya over the last 2 years. The secret meeting in Rome was part of the discussions connected to the agreement. However, no one was supposed to know about the meeting. Unfortunately, news of the meeting was leaked prematurely causing the suspension of the Libyan foreign minister and mass riots across the country.
While Libya and Israel have what to gain from cooperating the meeting’s leak put any potential normalization agreement on the back burner. The foreign minister was forced to flee to Turkey in order to protect her life.
