When something is reunited it is an emotional occasion. This is video footage from the year 1967. When the Israeli Army captured the Old City of Jerusalem. It gives me chills every time I watch it.

Reunification of Jerusalem

The Jewish People have a special connection to Jerusalem, specifically the Temple Mount, where the House of God once stood. To the Jews, this is the holiest place, after all, this is where House of God once was. Jews around the world pray towards the Temple Mount.

In 1948 the Old City of Jerusalem was in the hands of the Jordanians. It wasn’t until 1967 when the 6 Day War broke out did Israeli troops break through the walls of the Old City and capture Temple Mount. “Temple Mount is in our hands” the soldiers repeated and they raised the Israeli Flag.

After 2000 years of not being able to go to one of the holiest places, Jews were finally allowed to go to Temple Mount. Additionally, it was a joyous occasion. I’ve grown up in Israel where we can walk to the Western Wall and pray. I can’t even imagine not being able to go there. There must have been tears of joy when the Old City was recaptured.

Video Footage

The reunification of Jerusalem was over 70 years ago. Videos from this time period are hard to come by. All the videos we do have are special. Certainly, these videos have soldiers who have families, wives, children, and parents. This might be the only video footage they have. It is something very special. These videos help families remember their loved ones.

Finally, this video is chilling and brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it. You are watching history in the making!! You learn about history in school but to watch it, is something quite special.
