What a story! This is not common. To hear of a man who served in the Israeli army whose father was a Nazi? This is not a story you hear everyday.
There are many things to learn from Dr. Bernd Wollschlaeger’s story. Regardless of one’s negative past, a person can always change their path. Dr. Wollschlaeger’s father was a Nazi! He had every reason to continue in the path of hatred. But he didn’t. He was brainwashed to believe that his father did nothing wrong; that his father was a hero. But he found the truth and knew his father was wrong.
If someone like Dr. Bernd Wollschlaeger could find the truth, we can all search a little harder.
Hiding the Holocaust
What is absolutely insane is that the Holocaust, the systematic murder of 6,000,000 Jews, was unknown to Dr. Wollschlaeger as a kid; that he did not learn about it in school until he was a teenager. How could something so major and so recent have been hidden? How could his father have lied to him?
And now, in 2021, it is definitely not hidden. There is proof and evidence; there are survivors who speak up. Yet people still deny it happened. People still lie and say it didn’t happen, just like Wollschlaeger’s father. We must continue to fight that hatred. We must continue to fight against Holocaust denial.
