It starts off cute, but then he really hits it on the nose and delivers. What other nation has tens of thousands of its own that will do whatever they can to go back to the country when there is a war?
In the Yom Kippur War, there were many stories of officers and simple soldiers who literally got on the first plane they could to fly to Israel and put their lives on the line to defend the State of Israel and the people of Israel. Some of these heroes gave their lives doing this.
This phenomenon has repeated itself in the War in Gaza that is still ongoing. This dedication is a result of a deep generational bond that exists between the people of Israel and the Land of Israel. It is something that runs very deep in the veins of the Jewish people. When you pray to G-d facing Jerusalem, recall the destruction of Jerusalem and express the centuries-old desire to rebuild Jerusalem at every wedding and major Jewish Holiday, it gets deep into one’s consciousness.
That is what drives the tens of thousands of soldiers on the frontlines and the millions of Israeli relatives of these brave soldiers to fight and fight hard. But it is also the awareness that we simply have no other choice. It is fight or suffer the fate of so many other generations of Jews who did not have weapons to fight.
A bit of humor is sorely needed at times like this. It is not out of place – it is right on target.
