WhatsappThe Biden administration is reportedly placing a tremendous amount of pressure on Bibi Netanyahu to drop his key rightwing allies Betzalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir and rather team up with his enemies Benny Gantz and Yair Lapid.
The strange thing about this is that Bibi doesn’t really trust them and so the idea that he would sit with them is ridiculous. Neither Gantz nor Lapid trust Netanyahu, nor want to be in the same coalition – they think he should be in jail.
The fact is, Israeli’s voted for a stable rightwing coalition and the USA should respect their decision. Unfortunately, the Biden administration doesn’t seem to care.
In a world that is a seeing rightwing governments rise in Eastern Europe and Italy, it is not surprising that Israel would move in the same direction. Its time that its most important ally realizes that.
