WhatsappPresident Donald Trump believes the war with Iran could end almost immediately after America’s November midterm elections. His reasoning is straightforward: Tehran is running out of options.
Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Trump argued that Iran is deliberately trying to prolong the conflict in hopes of influencing American politics. According to the president, Tehran wants American voters to empower politicians who will ease the military and economic pressure and allow the Islamic Republic to preserve its nuclear ambitions.
“I think the war will end immediately after the election,” Trump said, arguing that Iran simply “can’t hold out any longer.”
That assessment highlights something much larger than American electoral politics.
For decades, Iran built its strategy around patience. Tehran constructed a regional network of proxies, invested heavily in ballistic missiles, pursued nuclear capabilities, and assumed that Western governments would eventually tire of confrontation.
That calculation may finally be collapsing.
The United States is no longer limiting itself to sanctions and diplomatic warnings. Trump said American strikes overnight destroyed nine Iranian ships—and warned that there is more coming.
More importantly, Trump made clear that Washington’s objectives have expanded.
This is no longer simply about negotiating another nuclear agreement. Trump said any future arrangement would demand “much more than a nuclear deal,” with additional issues placed on the negotiating table that were not being discussed only months ago.
That is precisely where the strategic opportunity lies.
Iran’s nuclear program is extraordinarily important, but the threat never stopped there. Tehran’s missile arsenal, terrorist proxies, attacks on international shipping, and decades-long campaign against Israel are all parts of the same revolutionary strategy.
The mistake would be allowing Iran to survive this confrontation, regroup, and rebuild.
If Tehran wants an end to the war, the objective should not simply be another temporary agreement.
It should be an Iran that can no longer threaten Israel, America, or the region.
