Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have ordered the Israel Defense Forces to carry out strikes against Hezbollah terror targets in Beirut’s southern suburbs, signaling a sharp escalation in Israel’s response to ongoing violations of the ceasefire agreement by the Iranian-backed terrorist organization.

In a joint statement, Netanyahu and Katz said the decision was made following repeated Hezbollah attacks against Israeli population centers and continued breaches of the ceasefire understandings that were intended to stabilize the northern front.

“Following the repeated violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon by the Hezbollah terror organization and the attacks against our cities and citizens, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz instructed the IDF to strike terror targets in the Dahiyeh quarter of Beirut,” the statement said.

The Dahiyeh district, located in southern Beirut, has long served as Hezbollah’s primary stronghold and operational headquarters. The area houses key command centers, intelligence facilities, weapons storage sites, and infrastructure used by the terrorist organization to coordinate attacks against Israel.

Israeli officials have repeatedly warned that Hezbollah’s continued military activity south of the Litani River, its efforts to rebuild operational capabilities, and its ongoing rocket and drone attacks constitute clear violations of both the ceasefire arrangements and United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

The latest Israeli action underscores Jerusalem’s determination to enforce its security red lines and prevent Hezbollah from restoring the military infrastructure that has been heavily targeted throughout the conflict.

Defense officials have emphasized that Israel holds the Lebanese government responsible for allowing Hezbollah to operate freely within Lebanese territory and has warned that continued aggression will be met with increasingly forceful responses.

The strikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs send a clear message that Israel intends to defend its citizens and will not tolerate attacks on its cities. As tensions continue to rise along the northern border, attention is now focused on whether Hezbollah will choose further escalation or face mounting military pressure from the IDF.
