Zionism Through a Biblical Lens

I need to say this because I keep seeing Zionism completely misrepresented online.

And honestly, I’m tired of it.

People hear the word and just run with all kinds of assumptions that really have nothing to do with what it actually is.

Zionism is in the Bible. That’s not opinion. It’s part of the biblical story of the Jewish people. And that connection matters.

Zion isn’t just a political word. It’s in the Torah, it’s in our tradition, and it comes up constantly tied to covenant, memory, and the relationship between God and the Jewish people.

So when I see Israel or Jewish people talked about like there’s no deeper history there, I just don’t agree. At all. Zion and Jerusalem are not random. They’ve always been central.

And I don’t separate Israel from that. I just don’t. When I read Torah and our tradition, I see continuity. Not something new. Not something disconnected.

I know people interpret things differently, I get that. But it still doesn’t sit right with me when the Jewish connection to the land gets erased or reduced like it only started recently.

That really bothers me.

And I want to be very clear here because people always jump to extremes. This is not me saying governments are perfect. Of course not. Every country has things you can question and criticize.

But that is not the same thing as denying the deeper Jewish and historical connection to the land. Those are completely different things, even if people keep mixing them together.

For me, supporting Israel comes from that connection. From how I understand the covenant and our place in it.

Jerusalem doesn’t disappear from that story. It’s always there. Always has been.

I’m speaking up because I’m honestly tired of staying quiet while this gets twisted and stripped of its context.

And something I keep thinking about… you can’t just dismiss God’s words. The covenant isn’t something you can vote away or rewrite depending on the moment. If you actually take the text seriously, the Jewish people are in it. They don’t just disappear from the story because it’s inconvenient.

Erasing the Jewish people from the land means erasing what God actually said. And I’m not okay with that.

Zion is covenant. Zion is history. Zion is memory. Zion is survival. Zion is Jerusalem. It’s the Jewish people and our story.

And I’m not staying quiet anymore.
