90 Years ago the Jewish people were praying at the Western Wall. The same words. The same Jewish nation. And the same holy spot.

Praying at the Western Wall

Even when our second Jewish Temple was destroyed by the Romans, the part of the Western Wall we see today remained. Jews have been praying there for thousands of years. We pray toward the Temple Mount at this wall, and we pray for the rebuilding of the Temple so that we can pray and connect to G-d in the Temple itself. We pray for G-d’s Great Name to be revealed to the world, and we pray for peace. Jewish people pray for the Messiah. And we have been doing this since before Islam was even created.

Although this video of elderly Sephardic Jews praying at the Western Wall is only from 90 years ago, this is still significant! 90 years might not be a lot in the long period of Jewish history, but it is a long time ago in terms of more modern history. And what words are these Jews chanting? Psalms. The same Psalms Kind David wrote thousands of years ago. Have you internalized that? The Jewish people have been reciting the same prayers for thousands of years. We are the same nation. We keep the same commandments that our ancestors kept. It’s truly incredible.

The people of Israel have kept an unbroken chain of our traditions. Despite being exiled, sent to different parts of the world, and continuously persecuted, we are still here. We are still strong. And we still have our faith in the same, One and only G-d—the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It’s such an amazing thing if you really stop to think about it. And this short video footage is a small reminder of that.
