Will President Trump Destroy Iran’s Fordow Nuclear Fortress?

The debate raging in America’s MAGA movement regarding Trump’s possible decision to enter the war against Iran rests on a bunch of faulty assumptions. The biggest one is the view that all foreign involvements lead to the US entangled for years in a foreign conflict. This ultimately sets up a binary choice between involvement or no involvement.

The PTSD Americans understandably feel from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq is unfortunately helping to frame the current war with Iran. Essentially America’s past experiences with foreign Middle East wars have locked in their assumptions of what will transpire if they get involved in Iran. The fact is, America has been involved with Iran and its radical Shiite regime since 1979, when the nascent Islamic Republic of Iran held 66 Americans hostage starting in November 4, 1979, with 52 of them being held in Tehran until January 20, 1981.

Iran’s regime and its proxies have been responsible for killing countless US troops over the last 46 years. This includes Hezbollah’s attack on the US Marine barracks in Beirut on October 23, 1983 resulting in the deaths of 241 US Marines. Iran has also been directly connected to funding and supplying weapons to the Shiite Militias in Iraq that attacked, injured and killed countless US servicemen.

The idea that America has not been involved or entangled with Iran is being willfully ignorant. Does that mean it should involve itself in the current conflict between Israel and Iran? That is ultimately up to President Donald Trump. Israel’s role in the current conflict and the surprising offensive that has paralyzed Iran’s leadership has indeed opened up the potential to not only cripple the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) setting the stage to destroy its nuclear program once and for all, but allow for Iranians themselves to overthrow the Ayatollahs.

Israel does not need the US to topple the regime or defeat the IRGC at this point, Israel’s air force and Mossad and the Iranians working with Israel on the ground are doing an amazing and miraculous job on their own. The only debate is the one place that it is assumed Israel cannot destroy unless it has weeks to do so.

This place is Fordow.

The Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant (FFEP) is built deep into the Fordow mountain, 20 miles south of Qoms a city of 1.2 million people. It is believed that the debate in the Trump administration is not about sending ground troops or actively participating in regime change but rather simply taking part in the conflict only to destroy Fordow. If Fordow is not destroyed then the more than 1,044 centrifuges that are there that have already been caught enriching Uranium to more than 60% will continue to spin when the IRCG recovers a sprint to some sort of nuclear weapon whether it is a primitive dirty bomb or something more powerful will commence.

Let’s be honest, the US does not need to be involved, up until now it hasn’t been except for defensively. Fordo can be destroyed, the only thing that is needed is time at this point and this why the President and his team are contemplating taking out Fordow, because by finishing it off fast, Israel can declare victory and the war can stop. The longer the conflict drags on the more variables enter in.

Yet, even if the President doesn’t order a strike, Israel can either bomb it over and over again for weeks or land a team to capture the nuclear mountain fortress.

Israel’s Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter seem to suggest that as a possibility in an interview on ABC news: “We have a number of contingencies… which will enable us to deal with Fordo,” he said. “Not everything is a matter of, you know, taking to the skies and bombing from afar.”

The fight within MAGA has very little to do with facts and truth, but rather one side drudging up old blood libels about “zionists” (aka Jews) controlling American foreign policy pitted against those in MAGA that understand that America First can also mean making sure enemies are destroyed before they have a chance to attack the USA.

Given the fact Israel is succeeding without American intervention is in itself a world shifting event and something that will have consequences around the world including in Israel for years to come. Those opposing American involvement in this war or any other may have just gotten their wish. No matter how much they deny – a strong Israel allows America to stay out of Middle East conflicts and focus on the things it needs to.
