WhatsappHamas and Islamic Jihad surprised Israel on Shabbat and the holiday of Simchat Torah with a barrage of thousands of missiles and a coordinated attack from air, land, and sea. From within the cover of the missile attack, Hamas terrorists invaded Israel proper – entering more than 20 communities where they killed 100’s of Jews as well as kidnapping more than 100 civilians – and dragging them to Gaza.
This attack is now being called Yom Kippur 2.0 for its intelligence failure. But more than that, it involves the inability of the IDF and IAF to respond in time.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has declared war and has called up more than one hundred thousand reserves from across the entire country.
The first task of the IDF is to retake villages that Hamas captured. Then it appears likely that a ground attack into Gaza will ensure in order to locate and free the hostages. Then, the Israel Defense Forces will work to dismantle the terror state that has been built there ever since Israel unilaterally withdrew from the area 18 years ago.
Hundreds of Hamas terrorists broke through the border fence and drove into Israel on Toyota pickup trucks and motorcycles. They were armed with machine guns, with one terrorist riding and another shooting bursts of automatic fire. Thousands of other terrorists followed by foot.
