A senior White House official told Fox News that the Trump administration is refusing to compromise on what has become the central issue in ongoing negotiations with Iran: enriched uranium. According to the official, the White House position remains absolute — “without enriched uranium there is no deal.” In other words, any final agreement would require Iran to fully surrender or dismantle its stockpile of highly enriched uranium before sanctions relief or broader normalization can move forward.
The comments come amid growing speculation that a breakthrough agreement between Washington and Tehran was imminent. But behind the scenes, senior administration officials are signaling that major disagreements remain unresolved, particularly over Iran’s insistence on maintaining some level of domestic enrichment capability. Iranian officials have repeatedly argued that enrichment is a matter of national sovereignty, while the Trump administration continues pushing for what amounts to a zero-enrichment framework.
The White House official also emphasized that no agreement is expected to be signed “today or tomorrow,” despite reports suggesting negotiations were nearing completion. President Donald Trump, according to the official, is willing to extend diplomacy for “five, six, seven days” in an effort to secure tougher terms rather than rush into a weak agreement for the sake of headlines.
“We will not make a bad deal, that’s for sure,” the official reportedly said, underscoring growing pressure inside the administration from both Israel and Republican hawks who fear any compromise could resemble a return to the Obama-era nuclear framework Trump has long criticized.
The standoff now appears to center on whether Iran is willing to abandon enrichment entirely — a demand Tehran has historically rejected. With the clock ticking and regional tensions still high, the coming days may determine whether the negotiations produce a historic agreement or collapse into renewed confrontation.
