Tehran’s Message: We Won’t Retreat

Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, made Tehran’s position unmistakable ahead of renewed talks with Washington: Iran’s missile program and uranium enrichment are non-negotiable.

In public remarks, Rezaei said any U.S. attempt to revive previous negotiating tactics — including demands to halt enrichment or curb missile development — will cause the talks to collapse before they begin. Tehran, he stressed, will not accept preconditions, will not discuss its regional operations, and will not allow European governments to influence the process.

The message isn’t diplomatic. It’s a warning.

By declaring both enrichment and missiles as “red lines,” Iran is effectively removing the two issues the West cares about most — the pathways to a nuclear weapon and the delivery systems to carry one. In practical terms, Tehran is offering talks without concessions.

This posture signals confidence, not compromise. Iran appears to believe time is on its side: enrichment continues to advance, proxies remain active across the region, and Western appetite for confrontation is limited.

If this stance holds, negotiations risk becoming theater — buying Tehran cover while its nuclear threshold capability grows.

Bottom line: Iran isn’t preparing to bargain. It’s preparing to dictate terms.
