Hezbollah sent a number of suicide drones into Israel’s north. One person is in critical condition and 17 are wounded altogether.
According to one report, at least three UAVs infiltrated Israel. One of them was intercepted, while a second exploded near Mazra’a. Hezbollah took responsibility for the launches, saying, “We launched a stream of UAVs and attacked a Golani Brigade command center and an Egoz Unit base in the Shraga Camp near occupied Acre (Akko).”
There has been some confusion on whether the impact was a suicide drone or an iron dome interceptor sent to hit them out of the sky. The IDF says the impact on the Route 4 highway near Nahariya amid a Hezbollah drone attack on the Western Galilee was an Iron Dome interceptor missile that malfunctioned.
“According to an initial investigation, it emerged that it was an interceptor that missed the target and impacted the ground,” the IDF says.
Several of the Hezbollah drones did also impact the Nahariya area.
The critically wounded man, in his 40s, was hit by shrapnel while driving, and he crashed into the side of the road. Hundreds of meters away, in a parking lot, a woman aged 30 was wounded by shrapnel, according to MDA. The other five light injuries were the result of the blast from an explosion near them.
The attack by Hezbollah does not appear to be the start of the expected Iranian retaliation, but rather a ratcheting up of the attacks that have been targeting Israel since October 8th.
