The 47% of Gaza that Israel has not taken over yet will not be an oasis of Arab calm under the leadership of a UN-connected peacekeeping force that serves as a barrier between the two warring sides. There is no worse idea than this for a future of calm out of Gaza. Why? Many reasons. It has never worked before nor will it work now in the Middle East. But the main reason is that it is fundamentally ignoring the most basic aspect of Gaza.
Gaza is a small geographic area that democratically elected – in overwhelming fashion – Hamas into power. Hamas is the Islamic version of Naziism. Hamas is a genocidal Jew-hating terrorist movement that must be eradicated completely. The women and children must be spread into several countries across the Middle East that have supported the Hamas – such as Qatar, Egypt, and Jordan. The rest must be divided up and sent packing with UN packages that supply them just as the UN supplied them with millions of dollars in the previous two decades.
The only way to deal with terrorist movements such as ISIS and Hamas is to destroy their ability to have weapons or gather together into a military force of any size. That is how you deal with genocidal terrorists. The unfortunate Arab children born into Gaza must be given a chance in another country – not Gaza.
The Abba Eban line that UNIFIL troops are like an umbrella that works until it starts to rain is exactly the point. No peacekeeping force will accomplish anything when one side will absolutely not lay down it’s arms until it is forced into. The only language that will work with ISIS was force. The only language that Hamas understands is force.
Hopefully Donald Trump’s plan was focused on freeing the hostages first and then using force once Hamas proves what everyone knows – that Hamas simply does not have the ability to not attack and attack again. That is the reason for the existence of Hamas. That is why nearly everybody in Israel is unified that the Hamas threat must be destroyed once and for all.
