There is no city in the world with the magnetism, attraction, and ancient, yet modern fascination – of Jerusalem. Jerusalem has been the center of the Jewish people for 3 millenia, an important city to Christians for 2 millenia, and also a city with some Arab mosques that go back more than one thousand years. However, the battles in and around Jerusalem go back way before the beginning of Christianity, and certainly before the Muslim faith. It is a city at a crossroads, the heart of the Holy Land, and perhaps, as the Jewish tradition believes, the site of the Holiest place on the planet.
How can one Feel the Holiness of Jerusalem?
Can a great movie encapsulate the uniqueness of this one-of-a-kind city? It can certainly do alot to explain and give over much of the emotion. But, no matter what anyone does to prepare to understand and feel the specialness of Jerusalem, books and movies will never do it justice. Seeing is believing. When one walks the streets of the City – especially the Old City, it is not rare to hear people say that their life becomes transformed. How? Why? Everyone has a different take on it. But, it seems that the key ingredients are a strong sense of history and modernity living in harmony with the common denominator of holiness being the uniting force. When one feels the connection to the Bible or whatever ancient religion one is connected to and then sees the stories literally come to life via archaeological discoveries and ancient prophecies that have come to fruition, it is impossible to not be moved.
In Jerusalem, this phenomenon happens all of the time. It is an intrinsic part of the city. So many people are drawn to becoming tour guides who live in and around Jerusalem, because there is so much richness to share. Let’s hope this movie does the special city justice.
