Despite the current full court press by America’s corporate media outlets to paint Syria’s new leadership as reformed Jihadists yearning for freedom, President Trump’s team can see clearly that the new leadership in Syria is Al Qeida.
President-Elect Donald Trump has made it clear that the ensuing sectarian violence does not warrant US involvement and insisting that “this is not our fight.” From the earliest moments of the overthrow of the Assad regime Trump has been clear about the need for America to stay out of Syria. Trump posted the following on X:
Why is this stance so important? Simply put, it makes it clear that the president-elect understands fully that there are no good groups inside Syria to support. Getting involved with that will place US forces into a real quagmire just like the aftermath of the Iraq war. It is even more important given the repackaging the corporate media is giving Turkey’s terror proxy Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS). Once a part of Al Qeida, outlets like CNN want viewers to believe that this group has now moderated.
Shortly after HTS leader, Mohammed al-Jolani was interviewed by CNN, the State Department announced it was working to remove HTS from the US terror list. Why rush? By forcing recognition for the new Syrian regime before President Trump assumes office they hope to create a fait accompli and in some way continue the same thoughtless US policy to the region that has always been there.
Tump knows better. In 2013 Trump tweeted the following:
If Trump makes good on his promise of staying out of conflicts that have little to do with the USA then it will allow regional players like the Gulf States, Israel, and Turkey to figure out a way to find a solution themselves. This alone will have a lasting effect on the region. No matter what, Trump’s statement after the fall of Assad signal not only a new Middle East, but a new America.
