WhatsappUsually the analogy that is given to the size of the State of Israel is the size of the State of New Jersey. It is indeed a very small country. But nearly everyone in the world needed this wake-up reminder from President Trump. It is simply unfathomable to most people in the world that a small country can have so many implacable enemies around it – and from within it – and yet still become the hi-tech powerhouse that it has become over the last few decades.

But that is the reality. Israel is tiny. It’s enemies surround it from every direction. Hizbullah in Lebanon, Hamas from the southwest, Egypt from the South, Yemen from very far away via unmanned drones, Iran from very far away via massive missile barrages, Syria to Israel’s northeast, and Iraq from the East. The only relatively stable border that Israel has is with Jordan to the east, and that has been the scene of perhaps Israel’s greatest unknown security failure that has gone on for years – smuggling of thousands of weapons into Judea and Samaria.
Size and geography matter. Depth and mountains allow a country to regroup when attacked and not have minutes or even seconds to withstand a missile barrage or surprise attack. One of the greatest challenges that Israel has faced with fighting the Hamas in Gaza has been the fact that Hamas terror tunnels and terror infrastructure is often less than half a mile away from multiple Israeli towns.
Israel’s need for more land is not only a historic need and based on the only true ancestral claim to the Land – it is an existential need. Israel needs to be alive and strong to fight back against it’s enemies. That requires the ability to not have to deal with terror tunnels in it’s backyard. The only way to insure this is to institute a policy that is tough and 100% logical.
Any part of the Land of Israel that is ever used as a platform for terror should be leveled by the Israel Defense Forces and annexed into the Land of Israel for security purposes. That is not just smart on the level of security. It will deincentivize any terrorist from taking a shovel and digging a terror tunnel. No better way of fighting terror than having a terrorist’s family stopping the potential terrorist with force or via snitching .
