“Settlers”
Did you know that the Biblical commandment is for Jews to “settle” in the land of Israel? Yes, the term “settle” is a Biblical term, connoting a positive action. Therefore, the term “settler” is the natural terminology to use when describing Jews who live in Israel.
There is nothing wrong with being a “Settler.” It is a positive term. I’m proud to be settling in my ancestral homeland, and I won’t let anybody make me think otherwise, or force me to redefine myself or use a different term.
Today the media uses the term “settler” to defame and dehumanize Jews who choose to live in Judea and Samaria. And they are wrong to do so.
We are proud Jews settling in our ancestral homeland, and we are proud to be settlers, regardless of the media spin.
Settlers Want Peace
It might surprise some, but Israeli “settlers” want peace. All of Israel wants peace. Of course, the mainstream media doesn’t report that, because it prefers to paint us “settlers” as the enemies of peace. According to them, peace doesn’t exist because Jews live in our ancestral lands of Judea and Samaria.
The media’s narrative goes as follows. Once Judea and Samaria will be Jew/settler free, then we will have peace.
Two major historical facts stand in the way of this false narrative.
1. Between the years of 1948 through 1967, there were no Jewish settlers in Judea and Samaria. The area was illegally occupied by Jordan and Jews were forbidden to live there. Yet, there was no peace during those years. We were in a constant state of war with the Arab world. Believe it or not, there was no conflict with “palestinian” Arabs – they didn’t even exist. The conflict was with the Arab/Muslim world, not with Arabs who called themselves “palestinians.”
2. Proud Jewish settlers lived in Gaza for over 30 years. The world told Israel that if we expel all the Jews from Gaza then we will have peace. In 2005, Israel did just that. Israel expelled all the Jews from their homes. 13 years later, and the Arabs in Gaza continuously attack us. Not only did making the area Jew-free not bring peace – it turned Gaza into a terror haven where Arabs shoot rockets at Israel all the time. If anything, a Jewish settler presence helps make the situation more peaceful, not worse.
The Settler’s Message
You won’t hear it in the mainstream media, but it’s true. War is our last option. We all want peace.
