Omer Shem Tov is a remarkable individual. After being held captive by Hamas for so many days, he’s still singing to G-d. Wow!
Goosebumps: released hostage Omer Shem Tov singing the “Song of Ascents” in front of more than 1,000 Christian leaders in Jerusalem, at a joint event by @IsraelMFA and Friends of Zion, led by Dr. Michael Evans.@gidonsaar@amirohana@USAmbIsrael pic.twitter.com/Cc5dEBsdl2

Omer Shem Tov is Inspiring People Worldwide
It’s true—it sometimes feels like there is a lot of bad in the world. Evil terrorist groups like Hamas exist. There is hatred and antisemitism. Dictators murder their own people. There is starvation, tragedy, and loss.
But then there are people like Omer Shem Tov. And people like him bring so much light to this world. People like him banish the darkness. It’s incredible. This former Israeli hostage was brutally held captive by Hamas for 505 days. And he didn’t come out of that hating G-d and running from his Judaism. He came out connected to G-d. He came out with a special relationship with His Creator. It’s mind-boggling. We cannot fathom what this young man experienced and endured while being held captive by a vicious, horrific terror group. We just cannot understand. And the fact that he was able to so deeply connect to the One Above is inspiring beyond words.
Many of us have it “easy.” Yes, life has its challenges. But if Omer Shem Tov can find G-d in the complete darkness, maybe we can find G-d in everything that exists. Maybe we can all see G-d a little more in our lives—in the good and the seemingly bad. If this former hostage can sing out so purely to G-d, maybe we should all try a little harder to do the same.
