If America had a leader on October 7th who would pick up a phone and tell the leaders of Iran that if they don’t have the hostages freed within 3 days, all of their bank accounts will be frozen and they will be bombed into oblivion, the hostages would all be freed. But today, the USA has a leader who is asleep at the wheel, and Barack Obama and whomever else is steering the boat, doesn’t care a whole lot about the hostages.
If Donald Trump wins the election on November 5th, one of his first phone calls will be to the leadership of Iran. They will know in no uncertain terms that they have till Jan. 20th to come up with whatever method they choose to free the hostages. The hostages will go free – probably on Jan. 19th.
This is exactly what happened in 1981 – with the same key player in the Middle East. Ronald Reagan beat Jimmy Carter in the election in November, 1980. Iran had been terrorizing the entire United States with the 200+ hostages it had been holding. Jimmy Carter was generally viewed as a weak President on foreign policy. The Iran hostage crisis worsened his image. It may very well have led to his loss in the 1980 election. It certainly did not help.
Ronald Reagan did not need to threaten. Iran did not want to mess with him. Good move. The hostages were freed and Iran was not a major issue versus the West over the duration of the Reagan Presidency. They focused on Iraq and building up their influence elsewhere. If Donald Trump gets elected, a similar story may very well develop and the nightmare of the hostages may very well come to an end.
