Ambassador Huckabee was unquestionably focused on the critics of Israel who have been claiming at every turn that the United States has to forego it’s “special relationship” with Israel. And without saying it out loud, he was also focused on what appears to be Vice President JD Vance angling clearly in the same anti-Israel direction.
JD Vance entered the spotlight of the leadership of the Republican Party out of nowhere. In a short span of time, he emerged as a leading young voice in the Republican Party who fit the bill for Donald Trump’s 3rd election attempt. He was a moderate outsider who could somehow balance Donald Trump’s presidential ticket on the one hand and be subservient enough to not cross President Trump if they ever disagreed on a matter of policy.
But these years as President Trump’s #2 have been years of watching and learning on the job for Vance. He did not enter the world scene with clear foreign policy positions. He remained purposely murky in order to keep his options open. Within the next year, Vance will either emerge as the frontrunner, be rejected by President Trump, or simply choose to wait it out for another 4 or 8 years when he will be viewed as a more seasoned statesman. The last option is doubtful. It is more probable that Marco Rubio will agree to be the number 2 for Vance and it will be Rubio who will wait his turn to run for the Oval Office.
That is why the battle for the soul of JD Vance is a major issue within the Republican Party. Tucker Carlson and Vance are close. This is not a minor issue. The isolationist reflex that many in the Republican Party are espousing has deep roots, and those roots usually are quite anti-Jewish too. That is why the Huckabees, Hegseths and Rubios are so important in terms of impacting JD Vance’s world view.
If the United States withdraws into its shell and hopes that somehow the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans will protect them, they are in for a terribly rude awakening. 9/11 should have been a strong enough reminder that the world is deeply connected and cannot be viewed as distinct sectors that can risk not staying involved in what goes on elsewhere. Yes, the United States border issue ought to be of paramount importance, but that does not preclude dealing with outside threats. Yes, the United States should avoid forever wars, but that does not preclude surgical, yet overwhelming strikes to keep things on an even keel.
It all goes back to the Founders of the United States. As Ambassador Huckabee explains, the Judaic basis that binds the modern Western world’s morals all go back to the Founding Fathers of Judaism – Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
