Wondering about the difference between counting days versus weeks before Shavuot?
Well, the easy part is “weeks”. As we know, the literal meaning of the word “Shavuot” is ” Weeks “. So, every week between Pesach and Shavuot we work hard to progress in purifying ourselves in holiness in order to become a klee that is ready and capable of being redeemed by the redemptive holiness of Matan Torat Eretz Yisrael which is the Torah MiSinai.
So what about “days” of the omer as distinguished from “weeks”? So let’s use the magic Vav to mean “in order that…” in the phrase “V’Shamru Benei Yisrael et Ha Shabbat. Laasot et Ha Shabbat….”
What comes before the magic Vav in”V’shamru..,”
In other words what is the prerequisite to “V’shamru”?
We refer to the days of the week as ascending numbers 1-6. Six DAYS of the week we sanctify the “chol”, ie, everything we engage in as servants of Hashem, “in order that” we are able, via Kiddush Hashem, to be a klee that is capable and holy enough, on the seventh DAY, to receive the holiness and redemption of Shabbat, Hashem’s cherished day of shleimut vis a vis CREATION of the universe.
Seven weeks of daily refinement and sabbatical redemption,
from Yitziat Mitzrayim to Matan Torat Eretz Yisrael culminates as Shavuot, Hashem’s cherished period of seven weeks of holiness and shleimut that forge Am Yisrael as a klee capable of receiving and activating Kidushat Haaretz in accordance with Torat Eretz Yisrael, thereby generating the beacon of TRUTH that will disperse and replace darkness (sheker/evil) in the world.
Finally, the 40 year wilderness period, ie, time and process, of purification and acquisition of holiness between Shavuot and Sukkot. Yichud of Hashem and His Chosen in the wilderness is the time of building the intimate relationship and shared Bayit of Hashem and B’nai Yisrael. This is the prerequisite to the ultimate shared experience, ie, the consummate knowledge of Hashem by Am Yisrael, during Sukkot-Shemini Atzeret, known as the Geula Shleima!
Addendum
First redemption (Shabbat) refers to “Creation”.
Second redemption (Shavuot) from liberation (Pesach) to “Naaseh V’Nishma,” the national covenant between Am Yisrael and Elokay Yisrael, includes conquering and settling the Land Of Israel; Establishing the holy society of the Land of Israel; Sovereignty of The Land of Israel; The rule of law, the rules of holiness; and the rules of Engagement in accordance with Torat Eretz Yisrael. All are matanot MiSinai re The Land of Israel, its Torah, its People, and the
Sovereignty of Elokay Yisrael over all of Creation.
Third and Final redemption/tikun b’malchut Shadai is the Geula Shleimah:
Universal Oneness and revelation of the Kingdom of Hashem Tzevakot!
