Most people understand that the battle against Iran is indeed a battle against an evil dictatorship that is willing to kill many thousands, probably tens of thousands of it’s own protesters in order to put down a rebellion. In this way, the Iranian Ayatollahs are continuing in the path of Stalin, Mao Tse Tung and other brutal dictators that have been willing to kill indiscriminately in order to hold on to their power.
But few truly understand that the battle against Iran is the frontline of a civilizational battle between radical Islam and the non-Islamic Western world. Donald Trump may not be a deeply religious man. But he certainly understands a threat when he sees one. That is why he is driven to dominate Greenland’s air space in order to protect the USA and the Western world from surprise attack from Russia or China. And Iran is already capable of hitting much of Europe with its ballistic missiles.
And yes, Donald Trump knows that by turning the other cheek when a dictatorship kills its Western-oriented protesters that it is an evil regime that has lost all legitimacy to continue in power. President Trump has already decided that he will knock out Iran’s leadership but not take over the country. He is probably working on consolidating all that is necessary to properly defend against Iran’s impending counterattack – whether at Israel or at USA forces. And just as important, there are probably back-channel meetings being made with Iranian soldiers on the ground who are not looking to share the same fate as their predecessors.
Marco Rubio and Donald Trump – the candidates – did not like each other when they ran for President against each other. But today, they have realized that their interests are aligned and together – because they are different, yet both very logical – they make an excellent team in forming foreign policy.
But in this conflagration, there is more room for their differences to come out. Donald Trump will probably be satisfied with an overwhelming attack that will destroy the infrastructure of the Iranian government and missile production facilities via a humiliating blow. But there will probably be a mess in Iran without any clear leadership emerging. Then President Trump will declare the end of the war as he did in the 1st round with Israel.
Marco Rubio will probably encourage continuing to engage until a new government has assumed power in Iran. But President Trump has clear goals. He wants to boost the image of a strong America and destroy a growing regional threat – all while scaring China and Russia. Then, he will feel he can financially squeeze China, Russia, and any other country he wants to with the stiff tariffs that will fund his massive check payments to US citizens before the midterms.
Hold on to your seats. It will not be a boring spring in the Middle East. But by the summer, it will probably be over.
