It’s pretty cool to see videos like this one. It’s hard to imagine what life was like in 1936 in Krakow. And this footage of course still does not tell a full story. But it gives a glimpse into a regular day on the streets in the Jewish quarter of Krakow. These are real people living their lives. It can be hard to imagine how vibrant Jewish life was before the Holocaust began.
Little did they know that just a few years after this video was taken, WWII would begin and life would never be the same. Little did they know that one of the worst time periods in Jewish history was about to unfold.
And now look where we are today—less than 100 years since this footage was recorded. Jewish life is vibrant in the Jewish homeland. The land of Israel is filled with Jews from all walks of life living together in G-d’s holy land. Torah study is happening all over the country. We have come a very long way since 1936.
