Just after 9am a ballistic missile shot from Houthi controlled Yemen was able to evade Israel’s missile defense system and impacted into the perimeter of Ben Gurion airport, causing damage, injuring people, and leaving a crater 25 meters deep.

Magen David Adom reported that eight people were hurt in the Houthi missile attack on Ben Gurion Airport. They include a man in his 50s in light-to-moderate condition with trauma to his extremities and two women, aged 54 and 38 in good condition who were hit by the shockwave. A man, 64, was lightly hurt after he was hit by an object which flew from the impact site, and two more women, aged 22 and 34, were lightly hurt while running for shelter.

Following the direct hit on Ben Gurion Airport a number of airlines cancelled flights in and out of Israel for the day.

Defense Minister Israel Katz in a terse statement following the Houthi missile attack on Ben Gurion Airport: “Whoever harms us, we will strike them tenfold.”

The Prime Minister and Defense Minister are set to meet to decide on the right response after the direct missile hit has essentially crippled Israel’s civilian aviation until airlines can be assured that there is no longer a threat on their planes. Online accounts have pointed out that the Houthi controlled airport in Sanaa is still operational. Will that be Israel’s next target?
