One might assume that after being held in Gaza captivity in the most brutal conditions, someone would be angry at G-d. Not Sasha Troufanov.

Finding G-d in Gaza Captivity

Wow is all there is to say. How can you not be inspired by this former Israeli hostage? Sasha Troufanov was far from a believing Jew before October 7. He said how G-d was not part of his life at all. And somehow, in the hell that he suffered, he found G-d. He started to believe. That completely changed his life and his perspective. Some people run farther from G-d when they experience suffering and tragedy. And others make the choice to turn towards G-d. Because really, that is the only way to make meaning of life and what we experience.

There is a plan for each and every one of us on a personal level, and there is a plan for the world on a larger level. Nothing is random. That is a comforting feeling. G-d does what is best for each person in this world. We often don’t see why things happen the way they do, but if we know that G-d has a plan, it helps us get through the bumps in the road.

The Jewish people know that G-d is looking after us. We know that He will not let us be destroyed. And when a Jew discovers this, his life is infused with meaning and purpose. It is truly remarkable that former Israeli hostage Sasha Troufanov discovered this at a time of such great suffering!
