Israel’s parliament, otherwise known as the Knesset, can definitely get heated. But sometimes, they have a little fun as well.
Song and Dance in Israel’s Parliament
Israel’s Parliament is not perfect. No government is. There are many issues that need to be resolved.
But sometimes, politics can be pushed aside. And when the Jewish month of Adar comes, everyone seems to get in the spirit. There is a special song that Jews around the world and all across Israel sing when the new month of Adar rolls around: “Mishenichnas Adar Marbim B’simcha.” It means that we increase our joy when the month of Adar comes. Even the Israeli politicians are increasing their joy here!
The month of Adar has the Jewish holiday of Purim where G-d miraculously saved the Jewish people from the evil Haman. He did so in a more hidden way. The joy of the holiday is felt throughout the entire month. And in Israel, the joy is felt throughout the entire country. Costumes are sold at every store. Special food gift baskets can be purchased everywhere. It is truly a celebration. If you have never been to Israel for Purim before, it is definitely an experience!
Even with all of our challenges, we are home in our ancient land. We are in the place where we are supposed to be, where our holiday songs are even sung spontaneously in our parliament! How special is that? Despite all the challenges, we must still count and recognize all of our blessings.
