For anyone who lived through 9/11, it is unfathomable that anyone would not view that day as one of the darkest days in the history of the past century. It was not only a horrible international terror attack that in a matter of a few hours took the lives of around 3,000 people. The shock and horror that such a terrible event could occur on the American mainland absolutely changed the American people in a fundamental way that has lasted for decades. Will it continue to reverberate or become forgotten as time passes will be determined by those who continue to learn or ignore the lessons from the terrible day.
