Israeli Professor Mordechai Kedar was reprimanded by his University for calling to open a new investigation into the assassination of former Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin. The assassination was in November, 1995. This comment of his has been headline news all day in all of Israel’s media.
At a pro-Netanyahu rally last night, Islam and Middle East expert Prof. Mordechai Kedar claimed that former Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin had been the victim of a political conspiracy, and that Yigal Amir, who is sitting in jail for the assassination, is not the actual assassin.
“Twenty-four years ago, the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was murdered,” Kedar told the crowd, “and the attempt to hide what happened continues to this day.
“The guilt of the Right continues to this day,” he said. “And how do I know it’s been silenced? For 25 years I was in the Intelligence Corps. I’ve seen tens of thousands of documents that are ‘confidential.’”
“Why ‘confidential?’” Kedar asked the audience, answering: “Ladies and gentlemen, much of the investigation into Rabin’s murder are still [in] secret documents to date.”
Kedar presented a sample document to the audience, declaring, “This is one of them, which came to my hands in a wonderfully legal way.”
“Rabin’s murderer was a man with the initials Y.R. – not Yitzhak Rabin. Y.R. The person behind this was, apparently, a leading politician who wanted to eliminate Yitzhak Rabin because he (Yitzchak Rabin) wanted to ditch the Oslo Accords.”
Kedar continued to say that after Rabin’s assassination, the Israeli left then turned the assassination into a political weapon against the Israeli right for something “Yigal Amir might not have done.”
Kedar said that he while he was part of the intelligence community, he saw tons of secret documents about the assassination that were all labeled secret.
One of the people who saw some of the documents was Nachum Shachaf, and he saw that it was written that a person with the initials Y.R was the killer. He has been investigating the Rabin assassination for years. He also made public that he was personally requested in the year 2000 by Rabin’s daughter, Dalia Rabin, to investigate her father’s assassination. Rabin was assassinated in 1995. Hence, even close family members were unsure that justice was served by jailing Yigal Amir.
Maybe it is true that Yigal Amir was the killer, but so many open questions remain, especially based on the fact that it was exposed that Amir was recruited by a secret service agent named Avishai Raviv, code-named “champagne.” Raviv was instrumental in many of the activities drumming up incitement to kill Rabin – before the assassination. Yet he today is a free man. Again, regardless of if one thinks Yigal Amir was the killer, there are many open questions about the assassination that should finally be properly investigated. Just google Avishai Raviv aka “champagne”. There is much the public does not know about the assassination, and Dalia Rabin was right to ask Shachaf to investigate her father’s assassination five years later.
Regardless of who one thinks killed former Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin, why is Dr. Kedar being reprimanded by his employer, Bar-Ilan University? Left-wing professors say horrific things about Israel all the time, even in their classrooms and even when supporting the anti-Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions campaigns against Israel. Yet, none of those anti-Zionist professors are punished. Why is it ok for Dr. Kedar to be reprimanded? Where is the academic freedom? Is it only for left-wing professors?
Prof. Kedar Punished by His University?
“The Bar-Ilan University administration strongly condemns Dr. Kedar’s comments,” the university said in a statement. “The things he said were said on his own accord, and in no way represent the university or its members. We believe that there is no place for these kinds of statements in Israeli society.”
While at first it was reported that he was punished by his University, Dr. Kedar told me that that is not true, he was not punished.
