This is an unbelievable development. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirms that Russia and Syria are working together to find the remains of Eli Cohen, Israel’s most famous spy put to death by the Syrian regime.

Eli Cohen was born in 1924, in Alexandria, a city in Egypt. His parents and three brothers left Egypt and made their way to Israel in 1949. However, Cohen stayed behind to finish his degree. It was only in the late 1950s that Eli, with the help of the Jewish Agency, emigrated to Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces recruited Eli and placed him in military intelligence. Eventually, the Mossad recruited him for a mission in 1961. Many historians have said that thanks to Eli Cohen Israel won the 6 Day War in 1967. This war changed the course of Israel’s history. For it was during this war Israel conquered Judea and Samaria and most importantly the Temple Mount.

Cohen was eventually caught, tried, and executed by the Syrian regime on May 18, 1965.

Netflix made a tv show called “The Spy” which is based on the true story of Eli Cohen.
