Iran’s regime is teetering, but it may not fall in this round. It may just weaken even more. The tightening of the stiff financial pressure that the Trump administration has been applying to Iran coupled with the inevitable strike on Iran from the USA will have a significant impact on some of the people in Iran who are plotting a takedown of the Ayatollahs.
But there is definitely significant brutality and mass killing going on in Iran – even by the own admission of Iranian officials. It is an historic time in the Middle East and Iran may soon become one of the least dominant countries in the reformation that is going on. If Iran indeed becomes a side player and a revolution ensues that turns the clock back to pre-1979 norms in Iran, then Donald Trump should be recognized as a major foreign policy genius.
But more probably, things will get messy in the short term and Iran will simply fade from its preeminence of sowing fear and terror across the Middle East and become a far less powerful force. Over time, Iran may simply crumble from the inside as more and more countries in the Middle East embrace a more commercial-like acceptance of the State of Israel and put aside their religious differences. Who knows? Iran may one day become a major business partner of the State of Israel. IF so, Netanyahu and Trump will both deserve Nobel Peace Prizes.
