Get ready to see the real faces of the tue heroes of our generation. In this short and excellent documentary by Ezri Tubi, you will see a snapshot of some of the most impressive young people in the entire State of Israel.

There are hundreds of thousands of Israeli soldiers, tens of thousands of whom are serving in dangerous combat situations. There are also thousands of young pioneers who are settling the Land in very difficult conditions. But there are very few who are doing both.

To say the least, this is close to impossible on so many levels. And yes, some of them do not come back. That is the nature of war. But when it is so absolutely clear that this is a war between good and evil, between right and wrong, between living a meaningful life on the frontlines of history vs. watching history as a spectator, then the forces of life rise up to the challenge.

Saying goodbye to a wife and children on a strategic hilltop in order to save Jews under attack on another front is an impossible decision to make. But that is exactly what these people did. And indeed, the wives are the true lionesses in the story. The modesty of the men doing battle who say they are going off to camp with their friends is enormously admirable and obviously an exaggeration. But it is true that what gives them strength is their wives who say, “Go, fight, come back when you are done. I’ll hold down the fort.”

People of this level of sturdiness do not merely grow up in typical situations. They are the products of excellent examples from their home, coupled with idealistic education by role models in their schools, youth movements or neighborhoods. This snapshot depicts their lives very accurately, but it is no more than a snapshot. The best part was the scene showing the little boys crying as their father leaves. How real and how difficult to watch.

These are the lions and lionesses of the Jewish people that the Bible refers to when the enemies of Israel rise up to destroy it.
