Israeli Hostage Chose G-d While Living in Hell on Earth
Eliya Cohen could have chosen to hate G-d. He could have chosen to do anything possible in those tunnels to distance himself from G-d. But he did the complete opposite. Eliya wanted to be close to G-d. He spoke to Him. He did whatever commandments he could. And not only that, but Eliya brought others close to the One Above as well. How truly remarkable the Jewish people are!
Some of us struggle with keeping G-d’s commandments in our “regular” lives. We feel like we can’t always fulfill His word, and we often don’t want to or choose not to. And then we see what these Israeli hostages did while they were living in fear every second of their lives. We see how they chose to connect to G-d while experiencing physical, emotional, and spiritual pain. How unbelievably beautiful! It’s inspiring. What Eliya and other hostages chose to do has elevated the people of Israel in so many ways.
May the hostages who have returned have complete recoveries—both in body and soul. And may they continue to inspire and uplift the Jewish nation forever.
